Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is the Acne Control Cleanser and how is it different from the SA Cleanser?
The Acne Control Cleanser is an acne-focused wash formulated with 2%
salicylic acid plus purifying clay, targeted at active, oily, breakout-prone skin.
The SA Cleanser is adapted to gently exfoliate rough and bumpy skin, while the Acne Control Cleanser is adapted to unclog pores and control oil of acne-prone skin. -
How often should I use it?
Apply product to a small area once a day for three days to test if you are sensitive to this product.
If no discomfort occurs, start with one application daily, then gradually increase to two or three times daily, if needed.
If dryness or peeling occurs, reduce application to once a day or every other day. Rinse off. -
Where does it fit in my routine, and what should I pair it with?
It is the first step of your routine, your cleansing step, morning and night.
You can follow with your acne treatment or serum such as
the Acne Control Gel.
Then, apply a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer to counter potential dryness of acne treatments such as
the Ultra-light Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 in the morning and
the PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion in the evening.
For individual spots, you can also use Anti-Spot Barrier Patches to hide the visible part and reduce redness of your spots while preventing from picking. -
Can I use it with benzoyl peroxide or a retinoid?
Combining several strong acne actives at once is a frequent cause of irritation and barrier damage. If you use benzoyl peroxide or a retinoid, use with caution and build up slowly. If irritation occurs, use only one product at a time. -
Is it safe for sensitive skin?
Use caution when using salicylic acid. CeraVe Acne Control Cleanser is formulated with 3 skin-identical ceramides and niacinamide to help calm skin and maintain the protective skin barrier. -
Can I use it on body acne?
Yes, it works well for chest and back breakouts. -
What is the difference between the Acne Control Cleanser and the Acne Foaming Cleanser?
While both contain skin-identical ceramides and niacinamide to help maintain the skin’s protective barrier while dealing with acne, those 2 cleansers don’t have the same active ingredients.
The Acne Control Cleanser contains 2% salicylic acid to help unclog pores and reduce oiliness.
The Acne Foaming Cleanser contains 4% benzoyl peroxide to help clear acne pimples and prevent new breakouts.
Both ingredients target different parts of the acne cycle. As every skin is different, please ask a dermatologist to know which active is best for your skin concern.
